IMPORTANT INFORMATION

KIDSVISIONFEST

Thanks to those who joined us at KidsVisionFest at the Dallas Library on January 19.  The number of children far exceeded our expectations.  Well over a thousand were screened for vision problems, and over five hundred saw a doctor, chose their frames and will receive new glasses very soon.

Due to the overwhelming turnout, not everyone who came for screening was served.  These children need to be screened and we are developing a plan to make sure each of them has that opportunity.  If you are a parent or school nurse, please check this website in a few days for instructions on how to help us make arrangements for those children.  And if a screening indicates a child needs to see a doctor, we will give them that opportunity.  Further, if the doctor writes a prescription for glasses for that child, we will let the child choose from a selection of great frames, make the glasses and get them to the school nurse - all at no charge.  This is possible thanks to generous donations from our donors and sponsors.

Thanks go to all the volunteers, the people and organizations comprising the Kids Vision for Life Coalition, the Dallas Public Library, our contributors, many sponsoring organizations, the doctors, and the parents, teachers and nurses who brought those children yesterday.  Together they made KidsVisionFest an event which will improve hundreds of young lives in North Texas.

Dallas County Henry Wade Juvenile Justice Center Teams Up with Kids Vision for Life to Provide Eye Exams and Glasses to Troubled and Incarcerated Teens.

Research has repeatedly linked uncorrected vision problems to juvenile delinquency and behavioral problems in children.  In fact, studies have shown up to 74% of juvenile offenders have one or more vision issues.  Starting in June, 2009, Kids Vision for Life will conduct mobile eye clinics at the Henry Wade Juvenile Justice and provide eye exams and prescription eyewear to teens who reside there.  As a result, we expect to improve the lives of these children so they are less likely to be repeat offenders.
