ABOUT THE ESSILOR VISION FOUNDATION

Essilor Vision Foundation is a public charity whose mission is to eliminate poor vision and its lifelong consequences starting with children.

·        We provide free eye exams and new prescription eyewear through in-school and partnership programs to children who cannot get them otherwise

·        We educate parents, teachers, caregivers, and community leaders to be aware of the implications of poor vision and watch for signs of vision problems in children

By helping children see clearly today, we give them a better chance of succeeding tomorrow.

Former First Lady Laura Bush stressed the importance of good vision care at Kids Vision Fest, presented by the Essilor Vision Foundation and the Kids Vision For Life Coalition, held Jan. 19 at the Dallas Central Library.

Kids Vision Fest provided free vision screenings, eye exams and new glasses - featuring the latest styles in eyeglass frames provided by Safilo and Nouveau Eyewear for children ages 4 to 12 who cannot afford vision care and do not qualify for other programs such as Medicaid.

Dallas County Henry Wade Juvenile Justice Center Teams Up with Kids Vision for Life to Provide Eye Exams and Glasses to Troubled and Incarcerated Teens.

Research has repeatedly linked uncorrected vision problems to juvenile delinquency and behavioral problems in children.  In fact, studies have shown up to 74% of juvenile offenders have one or more vision issues.  Starting in June, 2009, Kids Vision for Life will conduct mobile eye clinics at the Henry Wade Juvenile Justice and provide eye exams and prescription eyewear to teens who reside there.  As a result, we expect to improve the lives of these children so they are less likely to be repeat offenders.
